What is a Self-Driving Car?

A Self-Driving Car, otherwise known as an autonomous car, is a vehicle that is capable on sensing its environment and navigating the streets of the world without human input. They detect surroundings using a variety of techniques such as radar and GPS. They also have advance control systems to identify the best navigation path. They are capable to show relevant signals while driving too.

History of the Self Driving Car

The idea of autonomous vehicles gained widespread public exposure at an exhibit at the 1939 World Fair. The first self driving vehicle was the Stanford Cart of the 60s and 70s. It was able to cross a chair-filled room without human intervention. It had image processing capabilities and great intelligence. The modern driver-less cars came in the 21st century with them being able to navigate through moderate traffic and be able to drive on snowy roads.

Impact on Society

The introduction of these self-driving cars will impact the society a lot. They will affect the automotive industry the most. The revenue of the industry will be lost due to safer driving, the loss to need to park, and people can drive on long drives without the need to stay awake. It will increase the car utilization from 5-15% to 75%. It would also save money and there would be a bunch of savings on less wasted time and fuel. Since there would be no high or drunk people the roads will also be safer saving money from accidents.
